Hong Kong's skyline sits between Victoria Harbour and steep mountain ridges, offering unobstructed sightlines in most directions. Elevation changes from sea level to nearly 1,000 meters provide sunrise and sunset viewpoints for every fitness level.
The Peak Garden (free entry) on the summit's west side provides 270-degree views starting before dawn. Take the first Peak Tram at 7:30 AM (HK$88 return) or hike up the Morning Trail from Central in about 45 minutes.
The 495 m peak offers panoramic east-facing views over Kowloon. Trailhead at Sha Tin Pass Road, reachable by minibus 803 from Wong Tai Sin MTR. Allow 1-1.5 hours for the ascent. Bring a headlamp for pre-dawn starts.
At 957 m, Hong Kong's highest peak regularly sits above the cloud layer at dawn. Drive to the Tai Mo Shan Country Park car park (free) on Route Twisk, then walk 30 minutes to the summit. Temperatures can be 5-8 degrees lower than the city.
A 200 m hill on Hong Kong Island's east side with clear views toward Tathong Channel and the open sea. Access from Braemar Hill Road, 15-minute walk from Tin Hau MTR (Exit B). Paved paths make it an easy pre-dawn climb.
The park's east-facing waterfront looks across the harbour to Hong Kong Island. Open 24 hours, free entry. Nearest MTR is Kowloon Station (Exit D), 5-minute walk.
The Lugard Road loop trail circles the summit with west-facing views over the harbour and Lantau Island. The 3.5 km paved path is flat and stroller-friendly, starting from the Peak Tower.
The 2 km waterfront walkway faces west across Victoria Harbour. Free access, 2-minute walk from Tsim Sha Tsui MTR station (Exit E). Best vantage point is near the Clock Tower, where the sun drops behind Hong Kong Island's skyline.
A wooden pier extending into the water on Hong Kong Island's west coast, directly facing the setting sun. Free access, 10-minute walk west from Kennedy Town MTR (Exit A). Arrive early on weekends as the narrow pier fills up quickly.
The western lawn area provides unobstructed views toward Tsing Yi and Lantau. The elevated Great Lawn is the best spot, with the ICC tower and harbour bridge as backdrop.
