Shenzhen sits on the South China Sea coast in southern Guangdong province, with beaches facing east and a large bay opening to the west. This geography provides clear sightlines for both sunrise over the open sea and sunset over Shenzhen Bay toward Hong Kong's mountains.

Best sunrise spots in Shenzhen

  1. Wutong Mountain

At 943 m, Wutong Mountain is Shenzhen's highest peak with an unobstructed eastern view over Yantian district and the South China Sea. The main trail from Wutongshan Village entrance takes about 2-3 hours to the summit; entry is free but bring a headlamp for pre-dawn starts.

  2. Dameisha Beach

This 1.8 km public beach in Yantian district faces east-southeast toward the open sea, offering a flat horizon for sunrise. Entry is free, but reservations are required on weekends and holidays via the official WeChat mini-program.

  3. Xiaomeisha Beach

Located 3 km east of Dameisha, Xiaomeisha is a smaller, less crowded beach with the same east-facing orientation. Paid entry (around 50 CNY); the beach is backed by hills that frame the rising sun over the water.

  4. Lianhua Mountain Park

The summit plaza around the Deng Xiaoping statue sits at about 100 m elevation in central Futian, with open views to the east over the CBD skyline. A short 15-minute walk from the south gate to the top.

  5. Bijia Mountain Park

A 178 m hilltop in central Futian with panoramic views in all directions. The eastern slope lookout catches sunrise above the Luohu skyline. Free entry, gates open at 6:00.

Best sunset spots in Shenzhen

  1. Shenzhen Bay Park

A 13 km coastal promenade along the western shore of Shenzhen Bay with unobstructed views toward the setting sun. The section near the Shenzhen Bay Bridge is especially popular. Metro: Shenzhen Bay Park station (Line 9), free entry.

  2. Shenzhen Talent Park

Waterfront park in Nanshan district at the southern end of Houhai, facing west over Shenzhen Bay. The elevated viewing platform provides a wide panorama of the sunset behind the bay bridge. Metro: Houhai station (Line 2/11), free entry.

  3. Lianhua Mountain Park

From the hilltop, the western view extends over Shenzhen's skyline toward Nanshan and the bay. The park closes at 23:00, so sunset viewing is no problem year-round. Metro: Lianhua Village station (Line 3).

  4. Bijia Mountain Park

The western ridge trail has several clearings with views toward Nanshan's skyscrapers and the bay beyond. Less crowded than Lianhua Mountain, about 2 km to the northeast of it.
