Moanda sits on a series of open plateaus in southeastern Gabon, roughly 45 km north of Franceville. The elevated terrain and wide savanna-forest landscape provide unobstructed horizons in most directions.
The 42 km² plateau stretches east of the city and offers an open horizon over savanna and forest. The plateau edge is accessible via the N3 road, about 5 km from the town center.
This sandstone rock formation on the southern edge of the city stands below 500 m and provides a clear eastern horizon. The site holds cultural significance for local communities, so a respectful visit is expected.
The Mpassa River flows through Moanda, and its northern bank faces roughly east, catching early morning light reflected on the water. The riverbank is walkable from the town center.
The park's open savanna sections offer an unobstructed eastern horizon, approximately 30 km from Moanda via the N3 road. Entry requires a guide and a park entrance fee.
From the plateau's western rim, the sun sets over the Mpassa valley and surrounding forest canopy. The area is largely undeveloped and free to access outside of the active mining zones.
The 18-hole course sits on the Bangombe Plateau with open fairways and a broad western horizon. Contact the club in advance to check access for non-members.
The western grasslands have wide open skies typical of the Batéké Plateau region, and the evening hours often coincide with animal activity at the forest edges.
The Lékoni River runs within walking distance of the central market, and the western bank provides a clear view toward the setting sun. Canoes can be rented locally for a view from the water.
