Conakry sits on a narrow peninsula jutting into the Atlantic, with open ocean to the west and a sheltered bay to the east. That geography puts both a sunrise over calm bay waters and a sunset over an open horizon within easy reach of the city center.
The southern tip of the Kaloum Peninsula faces east over the bay; the small fishing beach here has an unobstructed view of the sun rising over the water. No entrance fee, reachable by shared taxi to Boulbinet.
This public beach in the Ratoma district, about 12km north of central Kaloum, faces northeast and catches early morning light directly over the water. Shared taxis run from Cosa junction.
The quayside near the ferry terminal on the northeastern edge of Kaloum faces directly into the bay estuary. The public walkway along the waterfront gives open eastward views, with fishing boats and the far shore as natural reference points.
The coastal road runs along the western edge of the Kaloum Peninsula with direct Atlantic views for several kilometers. The stretch north of Hotel Camayenne is less congested and offers a clean sightline to the horizon.
From the same tip, the sun drops into the Atlantic to the west with no landmass blocking the horizon. Low fishing pirogues moored in the foreground are a characteristic part of the view.
The islands of Room, Roume, and Kassa lie about 6km offshore, reached by pirogue from Boulbinet port in 30-45 minutes (roughly 30,000-50,000 GNF round trip). Kassa's west-facing beach has a fully open ocean horizon.
The coastline curves here to give a broad northwestern exposure in the evening; the horizon stays clear and the beach is rarely crowded after 6pm.
A quieter beach on the Atlantic side of the Camayenne neighborhood, about 10 minutes by taxi from central Kaloum. The shore faces west with a flat horizon and is more accessible than organizing a trip to the Iles de Los.
