Best sunrise spots in Bangkok

1. Wat Arun

   The east bank walkway near Tha Tien Pier faces the temple's mosaic-covered spires directly as they catch the first light; the area is free and accessible around the clock. BTS Saphan Taksin is the nearest skytrain stop, roughly 1.5 km south along the river.

2. Lumpini Park

   Bangkok's largest central park opens at 4:30am daily and charges no entry fee. The path around the main lake offers an open eastern horizon; MRT Lumpini station is a short walk away.

3. Sanam Luang

   This large open ceremonial ground north of the Grand Palace provides a clear view of the eastern sky with minimal obstructions. Entry is free and the Tha Chang Chao Phraya ferry stop is within walking distance.

4. Rama VIII Bridge

   The pedestrian walkway on this cable-stayed bridge runs north-south along the Chao Phraya and faces open sky to the east on the upstream side. Access is free and the bridge is open around the clock; the nearest Chao Phraya ferry stop is Phra Athit (N13), about 800 meters south.

Best sunset spots in Bangkok

1. Wat Arun

   The temple's upper terraces (100 THB, open until 5:30pm) look east across the Chao Phraya and give an elevated view of the horizon at dusk. The free riverside walkway on the east bank also works for watching the sky behind the spires change color.

2. Lebua at State Tower (Sky Bar)

   The open-air rooftop bar on the 63rd floor of State Tower has unobstructed westward views over the Chao Phraya River. No entry ticket is required, but a drink minimum of around 600 THB applies; dress code is smart casual. BTS Saphan Taksin is a 5-minute walk.

3. King Power Mahanakhon Skywalk

   Bangkok's highest public observation deck at 314 meters offers a 360-degree panorama including a glass-floor section; the western side faces directly toward sunset. Entry costs 880 THB and the deck opens at 10am. BTS Chong Nonsi (Silom Line) is a 3-minute walk.

4. Asiatique The Riverfront

   This open riverside complex on the east bank of the Chao Phraya has a broad westward view across the water and is free to enter. A complimentary shuttle boat runs from Saphan Taksin BTS pier every 30 minutes from 4pm; the complex itself opens at 5pm.

5. Rama VIII Bridge

   The downstream side of the same pedestrian walkway faces west along the river with no tall buildings obstructing the view. Free access 24 hours; the bridge connects the Phra Nakhon and Thonburi banks.
