Tapping is a quiet suburb in Perth's north, close to the wetlands of Lake Joondalup and a short drive from the Indian Ocean coast.

Best sunrise spots in Tapping

1. Yellagonga Regional Park

   Large wetland reserve around Lake Joondalup, right next to Tapping. East-facing views across the water. Walking trails along the western shore with several good vantage points.

2. Neil Hawkins Park

   On the western shore of Lake Joondalup with a wooden jetty facing east. Black swans and pelicans are usually on the water at dawn. Well-maintained park with parking and facilities.

3. Whitfords Nodes Park

   Elevated coastal bushland between Hillarys and Mullaloo with a 22-metre lookout. Near-360-degree views. Quiet trails through native vegetation.

4. Sorrento Beach

   Long, open beach that catches the morning light well. A promenade runs along the shore with grassy foreshore areas.

Best sunset spots in Tapping

1. Burns Beach

   White limestone cliffs and rock formations on the coast north of Tapping. An elevated coastal path overlooks the Indian Ocean. The limestone glows warm in the late sun. About 10 minutes by car.

2. Hillarys Boat Harbour

   Marina and boardwalk facing west over the Indian Ocean. Waterfront restaurants and cafes make it easy to watch the whole sunset over a meal. About 15 minutes from Tapping.

3. Mullaloo Beach

   Wide, flat northern beach with an open Indian Ocean horizon. The wet sand picks up the sky colours at low tide. Spacious enough to find a quiet spot even on busy evenings.

4. Whitfords Nodes Park

   The western edge overlooks the Indian Ocean from height. The coastline is visible stretching north and south, with limestone outcrops in the foreground.

5. Sorrento Beach

   Faces directly west over the Indian Ocean. Wide sandy beach and adjacent lawns with plenty of space. Classic Perth sunset spot.
