Sunrise and Sunsetin Dhaka, Bangladesh

Dhaka's flat lowland terrain and location along the Buriganga and Turag rivers allow open sightlines toward the horizon in several directions. The dry season from November to February offers the clearest skies.

Best sunrise spots in Dhaka

1. Hatirjheel Lake

   The eastern shore near Rampura offers unobstructed views over the water as the sun rises. The lakeside promenade is publicly accessible at all hours and reachable by CNG auto-rickshaw from Gulshan or Badda.

2. Ramna Park

   The open meadows on the eastern side of Ramna Park face toward the rising sun. The park opens around 6am, which aligns with sunrise for most of the year; entry is free.

3. Jatiyo Smriti Soudho

   The open grounds surrounding this national memorial in Savar, 35 km northwest of Dhaka center, offer clear views of the sunrise over flat agricultural land. The site is free to enter and accessible from dawn.

4. Gulshan Lake

   The eastern bank of Gulshan Lake in the diplomatic quarter faces open water with relatively unobstructed views at sunrise. The lakeside walkway runs along Gulshan Avenue and is freely accessible.

Best sunset spots in Dhaka

1. Hatirjheel Lake

   From the western walkway near Tejgaon, the sun sets beyond the opposite bank with the lake in the foreground. The 7.8 km promenade is lit after dark.

2. Sadarghat, Buriganga River

   The western-facing riverbank at Sadarghat looks directly toward Keraniganj on the opposite shore, where the sun sets over flat terrain. Access is free; the area is busiest in the late afternoon when river traffic peaks.

3. Jatiyo Smriti Soudho

   Facing west from the monument, the horizon is largely unobstructed. The drive from central Dhaka takes roughly 45-60 minutes by CNG or bus via Mirpur Road.
