Curitiba sits at about 900 meters above sea level on the Serra do Mar plateau, which gives it clear horizons and frequent dramatic cloud formations at dawn and dusk. The city has more than two dozen large parks, most of them free and easily reached by public transport.
The eastern shore of Lago Barigui faces the horizon with no tall buildings in the way. The park opens at 6 AM daily, parking is free, and the lakeside path is flat and paved.
The cast-iron greenhouse facade faces east and picks up the first light of the day. Entry is free; the park opens at 6 AM and sees very little foot traffic before 8 AM even on weekends.
At 1,420 meters, this summit in Quatro Barras (roughly 40 km northeast of Curitiba) is the standard local destination for watching the sun rise above the cloud layer. The trail from Bairro Timbu is about 6 km round trip; most hikers start before 4 AM to reach the top in time.
The eastern bank of the park's lake is open and flat, with an unobstructed view toward the sunrise horizon. Located in the Santa Cândida neighborhood, about 8 km from the city center, accessible by bus or car.
From the western bank, the lake surface mirrors the colors of the western sky without obstruction. Bus lines 511 and 513 stop at the park entrance on Avenida Cândido Hartmann.
The 109-meter telecommunications tower in the Mercês district has an enclosed observation deck with 360-degree views above the city roofline. Open Tuesday to Sunday; entry costs R$10. The western side faces the horizon directly with no obstructions.
The upper terrace overlooks the former basalt quarry lake and an open stretch of western sky. The park is stop 10 on the Linha Turismo sightseeing bus circuit and closes at 8 PM; arriving 30 minutes before sunset is enough to claim a good spot at the railing.
The western lakeside lawn has no tree cover blocking the low sun and stays open until dusk. A popular spot with local joggers and families on clear evenings.
