São Paulo sits at around 760 meters above sea level on the Atlantic Plateau, with surrounding hills offering elevated viewpoints above the metropolitan skyline. The dry season from April to September brings the clearest conditions for both sunrise and sunset.
At 1,135 m the highest point in São Paulo state, this summit in Parque Estadual do Jaraguá clears the smog layer and offers an open eastern horizon over the city basin. Hikers can register from 6:00 AM for pre-dawn access; the park is about 30 km northwest of the center, best reached by car via Rodovia dos Romeiros (SP-312).
The park opens at 5:00 AM on weekdays, making it one of the few central spots accessible for sunrise without a car. The lake near Pavilhão Japonês reflects the eastern sky on calm mornings; free entry, about 1.5 km on foot from Ana Rosa metro station (Line 2-Green).
The granite platform at Núcleo Pedra Grande (around 1,010 m) looks south over the São Paulo skyline as morning light illuminates the city from the east. The park opens at 8:00 AM Wednesday to Sunday; admission R$60, internal shuttle to the viewpoint R$20; located about 20 km north of the center, best reached by car.
The 360-degree panorama includes an unobstructed western view over the São Paulo basin. The park closes at 5:00 PM in winter, so check closing times before planning a sunset visit.
The western perimeter near Portão 10 on Avenida República do Líbano has open lawns with a clear view toward the setting sun. Free entry; park closes at midnight.
Known locally as Praça Pôr do Sol, this elevated open square in Alto de Pinheiros has an unobstructed western horizon and is the most popular dedicated sunset gathering spot in the city. Free entry; about 2 km uphill from Vila Madalena metro station (Line 2-Green), or take a rideshare directly.
The cable-stayed bridge over the Rio Pinheiros is best viewed from Parque do Povo on the east bank, which faces directly west across the river. The park is next to Cidade Jardim CPTM station (Line 9-Esmeralda); the bridge's LED lighting activates after dusk.
The 41st-floor bar and observation terrace at Avenida Ipiranga 344 looks west over the city center, with the República and Higienópolis districts below. Bar entry in the evening is around R$30-35 and includes a welcome drink; República metro station (Red/Yellow lines) is at street level directly below the building.
The open lawns on the western side of this 75-hectare park face the Serra de Cotia hills and offer an unobstructed western horizon. Free entry; open daily until 7:00 PM; a pedestrian bridge from Villa Lobos-Jaguaré CPTM station (Line 9-Esmeralda) connects directly to the park entrance.
