Best sunrise spots in Nanjing

  1. Zijin Shan (Purple Mountain)

    At 448 m, this is the highest point in central Nanjing with an unobstructed eastern horizon. Take Metro Line 2 to Xiamafang, then bus 20 to the trailhead; the hike to the summit takes about 45 minutes.

  2. Ming City Wall (Jiefang Gate)

    The restored wall section near Jiefang Gate faces east toward Purple Mountain. The walkway opens at 8:00 in summer (8:30 in winter), entry 30 CNY. Arrive early on weekdays to avoid crowds.

  3. Xuanwu Lake Park

    The eastern shore near Liang Zhou island offers clear sightlines toward Purple Mountain. The park opens at 6:00 year-round, free entry.

  3. Nanjing Yangtze River Bridge

    The pedestrian walkway on the upper deck provides wide westward views over the Yangtze. Access from the south side via bus 532 or 159 to Daqiao Nanbao station. Free to walk, about 1.5 km one way.

  4. Mochou Lake Park

    A compact lake park in western Nanjing with open water reflecting the sky. Entry 35 CNY, closest stop is Mochou Lake on Metro Line 2. The west-facing pavilion near the lake center offers the best view.

  5. Yuejiang Tower

    The west-facing side overlooks the Yangtze and the bridge. On clear days visibility extends well beyond the far bank. About 10 min walk from Jianning Road Metro station (Line 3).
