Best sunrise spots in Bogotá

1. Cerro de Monserrate

   The funicular and cable car start operating at 5:00 AM on weekdays. From the 3,152-meter summit, you face east across the mountain ridge with the city still in shadow below.

2. Quebrada La Vieja

   A free hiking trail in the Cerros Orientales, open from 5:30 AM to 10:00 AM. The 2.8 km path gains 400 meters of elevation and faces east, putting you above the city by first light. Access from Calle 71 with Carrera 1.

3. Parque Simón Bolívar

   At 113 hectares, this is Bogota's largest park with flat, open grounds and an unobstructed eastern horizon toward the Cerros. The lake area near the central stage offers the best vantage point. Free entry, opens at 6:00 AM.

4. Parque Nacional Enrique Olaya Herrera

   This 283-hectare hillside park on the western slope of the Cerros Orientales opens at 6:00 AM. The upper trails near Carrera 5 face east and sit high enough to catch early light over the ridge.

5. Humedal de Córdoba

   A 40-hectare urban wetland in the Suba district, accessible from Calle 127. The still water creates mirror-like reflections at dawn. Free entry, best accessed via TransMilenio station Calle 127.

Best sunset spots in Bogotá

1. Cerro de Monserrate

   The west-facing terrace overlooks the entire Sabana de Bogota. The round trip costs about 25,000 COP. Go early on weekends to avoid long queues at the cable car station.

2. Mirador de La Calera

   Several pullover viewpoints along the road from Bogota to La Calera, about 20 minutes from the city center via Carrera 7. The spots at km 3-5 face directly west over the Sabana. Free roadside parking available.

3. Parque Nacional Enrique Olaya Herrera

   The lower lawns around the main entrance on Carrera 7 with Calle 39 face west with a clear view across the city center. Popular with joggers and families in the evening.

4. Cerro de Guadalupe

   At 3,317 meters, this is the highest viewpoint near the city center. The area around the Virgen de Guadalupe statue faces west with a panorama stretching across the entire plateau. Drive up via the paved road from Monserrate area; foot access is restricted after dark.
