Bandung sits at around 700 m elevation in a volcanic highland basin, ringed by hills and peaks that reach up to 2,300 m. The northern and eastern ridges offer elevated viewpoints above the city's morning mist for sunrise, while the western plateau edges provide open westward views for sunset.
Set at 1,250 m on the Dago Pakar escarpment within Tahura Djuanda forest reserve, the cliff faces east over forested valleys that fill with mist at dawn; Tangkuban Parahu is visible to the north on clear days. Entrance Rp 15,000 (domestic); open from 05:00, with the final kilometer to the viewpoint on foot from the car park.
Located above the Kawah Putih crater lake at 2,343 m, about 50 km south of Bandung, this viewpoint gives one of the highest pre-dawn vantage points in the area with east-facing views over the Patuha volcanic ridge. Domestic entrance Rp 31,000 plus Rp 15,000 for sunrise access; visitors must arrive at the main gate by around 04:00 via private car or organized tour, as public transport does not reach the summit.
The Puncak Bintang sub-peak at 1,500 m on the northeastern ridge above Bandung faces east with a clear horizon over the Sumedang hills; arrive by 04:30 to secure a spot. Total entry Rp 23,000; no public transport reaches the site, so use Gojek or Grab from Dago (around Rp 30,000 to 50,000).
Puncak Bayangan summit at 1,818 m sits on the eastern rim of the Bandung basin, offering east-facing views over the Sumedang lowlands at dawn. The Batu Kuda trailhead is 18 km east of central Bandung; entrance Rp 10,000 to 15,000, with a 1.5 to 2-hour climb on a well-marked trail.
The same summit opens to the west-southwest over the entire Bandung city basin, with the city's street grid and the western sky both visible. The on-site cafe (Warung Daweung) stays open until midnight on weekends, making it easy to combine sunset with dinner.
Facing west from the same summit, the panorama covers the full width of the Bandung basin and is one of the most complete city-basin views available near Bandung. Start the descent no later than 16:30 to reach the trailhead before dark.
An art gallery and restaurant on the Dago Giri ridge at around 1,100 m, with a southwest-facing terrace that looks directly over the Bandung city basin. Entrance Rp 20,000 (credited toward a drink); open Tuesday to Sunday from 11:00, closed Monday. Reservations recommended for weekend terrace seating.
