Depok is a city of over two million residents on the southern border of Jakarta, in West Java. With a flat topography and more than 20 natural lakes (situ), the lakesides offer open sightlines that are otherwise rare in this dense metropolitan area and are the main spots for watching the sky at dawn and dusk.
The lake on the Universitas Indonesia campus is free and open 24 hours, with the nearest access point a 5-minute walk from the UI KRL Commuter Line station. The open eastern bank provides an unobstructed view over the water.
This free public lake on Jalan Nusantara Raya in the Pancoran Mas district is accessible before dawn. A footbridge over the water provides a clear view east above the surrounding treeline.
In the Tapos district in northeastern Depok (Jalan Setu Jatijajar I), this lake is surrounded by relatively low-density development and has an open eastern horizon across the water.
This lake in northern Depok has a floating wooden platform on the water, giving an elevated, unobstructed view to the east. It is a popular spot for early-morning photography.
The western perimeter of the lake faces open sky; the surrounding jogging track is actively used in the evenings and gives multiple vantage points along the water.
The western bank reflects the late afternoon sky on the flat water surface; food stalls near the entrance stay open until dark and the perimeter path remains active.
On Jalan Raya Abdul Gani in the Cilodong district, this free recreation lake has an open western side well-suited for late-afternoon light. Paddleboats are available from Rp 10,000 if you want to watch the sunset from the water.
This 6-hectare reservoir on Jalan Setu Pengasinan Indah in the Sawangan district is calm in the late afternoon, with sky colors reflected on the flat water. Open daily 08:00 to 18:00, free entry with a separate parking fee.
