Surabaya's most popular beach on the northeast coast faces the Madura Strait directly east. Arrive before 5:30 a.m. to secure a spot; entry around IDR 15,000, roughly 30 minutes from the city center by ojek or Grab.
From the Surabaya end of this 5.4-km bridge, the sun rises over the Madura Strait with no obstructions. Motorcycles and pedestrians can use the service lanes along the bridge edge; no fee for pedestrians.
The developed section of Kenjeran Beach includes a boardwalk extending roughly 200 meters over the Madura Strait, with an unobstructed eastern horizon. Entry IDR 20,000; parking available on site.
The main harbor in North Surabaya has a public waterfront promenade facing the Madura Strait to the northeast. Free to access along the harbor road; best reached by car or Grab (about 15 minutes from the city center).
The western approach of the bridge faces the open Java Sea, giving a clear view of the horizon at dusk. The bridge is lit after dark, making it a popular spot for evening photography as well.
From the western dock area, the sun sets over the Java Sea with open water views. The public walkway is free; allow extra time in the early evening due to heavy freight traffic.
A landscaped park along Jl. Ahmad Yani in South Surabaya with an elevated section that has a clear view of the western sky. Free entry; the park stays open until 10 p.m.
The 41-meter Heroes Monument stands in an open plaza in central Surabaya, oriented toward the west. The surrounding park provides a broad view of the sunset sky and is free to enter.
The colonial-era Red Bridge in Surabaya's Old Town (Kota Tua) crosses the Kalimas river and faces west. The surrounding streets are quiet in the early evening; free access, about 10 minutes by taxi from the city center.
