Pyongyang is built along the Taedong River at around 39 degrees north latitude. The flat city center and several riverside locations offer unobstructed views to the east and west.
The plaza covers roughly 75,000 square meters on the Taedong's west bank and faces east across the river toward the Juche Tower. Sunrise lights the opposite bank and reflects off the water; access is via guided tour only.
The observation deck at 150 meters offers a 360-degree city view; admission is 5 EUR and the tower is open during daylight hours. Standing on the east bank, it overlooks the river stretching northwest toward the morning sky.
The hill reaches 95 meters above street level and has several clearings with unobstructed eastern views. Locals use the paths for morning exercise from early hours; no admission fee.
The elevated plateau of the Grand Monument complex stands above the surrounding streets with clear eastern exposure over the lower city center. The height advantage means direct morning light arrives here several minutes before the streets below.
Facing west from the top, the flat city grid extends to the horizon with no obstructions. The low hills to the west where the sun sets are visible well into dusk.
The western and southern slopes have open viewpoints toward the Taedong valley and the city skyline. The park is within walking distance of central Pyongyang.
The paved promenade on the east bank faces west across the water toward Kim Il-sung Square and the city skyline. Several kilometers of riverside walkway without tall buildings keep the western horizon open until the sun is fully down.
The island sits in the middle of the Taedong River, accessible from both banks via bridge; entrance to the recreation area is approximately 5 EUR. Low surrounding terrain on all sides keeps the western horizon open until the sun is fully set.
