Seoul sits in a basin surrounded by mountains, offering elevated vantage points across the city. The Han River runs east to west through the center, creating open sightlines for both sunrise and sunset.
A 287m peak in eastern Seoul with a dedicated sunrise viewing platform at the summit. The 30-minute trail starts from Achasan Station (Line 5, Exit 2), with unobstructed views toward the eastern horizon.
The 342m peak behind Gyeongbokgung Palace offers clear eastward views over central Seoul. Access via the Changuimun Gate trailhead; bring your ID as the fortress wall area requires registration.
The observation deck on Namsan (480m total elevation) provides a 360-degree panorama. It opens at 10:00, but the free outdoor terrace around the tower base is accessible from sunrise.
A small island in the Han River between Yongsan and Dongjak, reachable on foot from Noryangjin Station (Line 1, 8-minute walk). The open riverside deck faces east without obstructions.
A 338m granite peak northwest of Gyeongbokgung with panoramic views east over the city skyline. The main trail from Muakjae Station (Line 6) takes about 40 minutes.
An elevated park on a former landfill in Mapo-gu, 98m above the Han River with wide-open westward views. Free entry; closest station is World Cup Stadium (Line 6, Exit 1), then a 10-minute walk uphill.
The south bank promenade below Banpo Bridge faces west along the Han River. Open 24 hours, free entry; nearest station is Express Bus Terminal (Lines 3/7/9).
The west-facing terrace offers views over Yongsan and the Han River. Observation deck tickets cost 16,000 KRW for adults; the Namsan Cable Car runs from 10:00.
The western tip of the island has benches with an unblocked view downstream toward Yeouido. Free access; the on-site cafe stays open until 22:00.
The ridgeline facing west overlooks Eunpyeong-gu toward the mountains beyond. No entry fee; the trail closes at sunset in winter, so time your descent accordingly.
