Bursa sits at the base of Uludağ (2,543 m) in northwestern Turkey, with the Sea of Marmara about 25 km to the north. The mountain provides elevated viewpoints well above cloud level, while the coastal access at Mudanya offers an open sea horizon for sunset.

1. Uludağ

   The summit plateau at 2,543 m is often above the cloud layer, with views east over the Bursa plain and the Sea of Marmara. Reaching it for sunrise requires an overnight stay at one of the ski resort hotels, as the cable car does not operate before dawn.

2. Sarıalan

   The cable car's upper station at 1,635 m on Uludağ's northern slopes is accessible without hiking and sits above most morning fog, with clear views east over the Bursa basin. Summer operating hours begin around 8:00.

3. Tophane Park

   The old hilltop citadel in Bursa's center contains the tombs of Ottoman founders Osman and Orhan Gazi, and its ramparts overlook the city and the flat plains to the northeast. The park is free to enter and a 10-minute uphill walk from Heykel Square.

Best sunset spots in Bursa

1. Uludağ

   The open western slopes give unobstructed views until the sun drops below the horizon. The teleferik (cable car) typically runs until around 22:00 in summer, making a return trip after sunset feasible.

2. Sarıalan

   A terrace at the station faces southwest, with views over forested slopes and the city below. Round-trip cable car tickets cost approximately 250 TL (2024).

3. Çekirge

   The historic thermal spa district occupies elevated ground northwest of the city center, with streets opening toward the Sea of Marmara. The area around the 1. Murat (Hüdavendigar) Mosque has the most open westward views; buses 38 and 39 connect from Heykel Square.

4. Mudanya Waterfront

   The harbor promenade in Mudanya, 25 km west of Bursa on the Sea of Marmara, faces directly west over open water. Ferries connect Mudanya to Istanbul (Güzelyalı terminal); the waterfront walk begins 10 minutes from the ferry pier.

5. Cumalıkızık

   This preserved Ottoman village on Uludağ's northern slopes, 10 km east of Bursa and a UNESCO World Heritage site, has upper lanes that open west over the entire Bursa plain toward the Sea of Marmara. Shared minibuses (dolmuş) run from the Osmangazi district throughout the day.
