Buenos Aires lies on the western bank of the Rio de la Plata, one of the widest river estuaries in the world. The flat eastern horizon over the water provides clear conditions for sunrise, and sunsets unfold across the low-rise urban sprawl and pampas to the west.
A 350-hectare nature reserve on the eastern waterfront in Puerto Madero, entrance at Av. Tristán Achával Rodríguez 1550; free admission. The open shoreline faces east directly over the Rio de la Plata with no obstructions, making it the most popular sunrise spot in the city.
The riverside walkway along Av. Rafael Obligado runs north of Aeroparque Jorge Newbery directly along the Rio de la Plata. Free access; before 7 a.m. the area is still quiet and the eastward water horizon is completely unobstructed.
This open-air memorial and sculpture park at Av. del Libertador 8465 faces east over the Rio de la Plata; free entry. Arriving 15-20 minutes before sunrise gives the best position along the northern waterfront.
Facing west from the riverbank, the park has clear sightlines toward the Buenos Aires skyline. Several bus lines along Av. del Libertador stop directly at the entrance.
Santiago Calatrava's cable-stayed pedestrian bridge in Puerto Madero is free to access and faces west toward the city center skyline. The nearest metro station is Catedral on Línea A, roughly a 10-minute walk.
The large parkland in Palermo surrounding the Galileo Galilei Planetarium and its lakes offers open western views with the low city profile in the background. Free access; multiple bus lines stop along Av. del Libertador at the park entrance.
