Sunrise and Sunsetin Kowloon, Hong Kong

Kowloon faces Victoria Harbour from the mainland side of Hong Kong, with the island skyline providing a clear western horizon. Its mix of accessible waterfront promenades and hillside trails makes it one of the most varied locations in Hong Kong for sunrise and sunset viewing.

Best sunrise spots in Kowloon

1. Kai Tak Runway Park

   The former airport runway extends into the harbour and points east toward the Lei Yue Mun Channel, giving unobstructed sunrise views over the water. Free, open 24 hours, about a 10-minute walk from MTR Sung Wong Toi.

2. Signal Hill Garden

   A small hilltop garden in Tsim Sha Tsui with a clear eastern outlook across the harbour toward Hung Hom. Free and open 24 hours; roughly 10 minutes on foot from MTR Tsim Sha Tsui.

3. Kowloon Peak

   At 602 m, Kowloon Peak offers unobstructed eastern views toward Sai Kung and the open sea. The trail from the end of Fei Ngo Shan Road takes about 1.5 hours; leave well before dawn.

4. Beacon Hill

   The 457 m summit gives wide eastern views over the Kowloon hills and into the New Territories. The Beacon Hill Trail from Beacon Hill Road reaches the top in about 45 minutes; no entry fee.

Best sunset spots in Kowloon

1. Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade

   The section near the Hong Kong Cultural Centre faces west-southwest across Victoria Harbour; sunset falls directly behind the towers of Central on the opposite shore. Free and open 24 hours; MTR Tsim Sha Tsui (Exit L6).

2. Kowloon Peak

   The western view from the summit takes in Victoria Harbour and Lantau Island as the sun drops toward the sea. A taxi from Kowloon City to the trailhead costs around HKD 60.

3. Beacon Hill

   Looking southwest, the sun sets over the harbour basin and the Tsing Ma Bridge area. No facilities at the summit; bring water.

4. Sky100 Observation Deck

   The 100th floor of the International Commerce Centre in West Kowloon provides 360-degree views and stays open until 9 pm (last entry 8:30 pm). Entry HKD 198; MTR Kowloon (Exit C or D).

5. West Kowloon Cultural District Waterfront

   The promenade between the Xiqu Centre and the water faces southwest toward Green Island and Lantau, with a clear horizon at sunset. Free access from early morning; MTR Austin or Kowloon (Exit D1).
